‘Free burial’ deal for New Year’s Eve drink-drivers

10.31 | 4 January 2010 |

An undertaker in the US state of Georgia extended an unusual offer to people intending to drink and drive on New Year’s Eve – an all-expenses-paid funeral.

The McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home made the offer to anyone who signed up, confirming that they intended to drink or take drugs before driving on the biggest party night of the year.

The twist on the phrase ‘it’s your funeral’ was intended to draw attention to the risks of drink and drug driving.

The firm’s co-owner Barry Miller said no one has ever signed on the dotted line in any of the 10 years he has run the driver-awareness campaign.
