Local Authority Publicity is launching a campaign in January 2012 designed to combat dangerous and inappropriate parking outside schools.
Local Authority Publicity, part of Publishing Media Group, offers a partnering service to enable road safety officers to outsource their road safety education publishing to its team of publishing professionals, without cost. The company claims to ‘produce free campaigns, with or without support advertising’.
Local Authority Publicity says that drivers are increasingly failing to respect parking and traffic regulations outside schools, and in order to reduce the threat to children’s safety the problem needs to be effectively addressed using a two-tier approach: on-street enforcement, coupled with effective education and publicity.
While targeting parent drivers, the ‘Outside Your School’ campaign is also designed to resonate with all drivers when they are in the vicinity of a school and need to park a vehicle.
The campaign will feature posters, web and social media pages and is being made available to local authorities and police forces free of charge, for distribution in their communities under their own branding.

About time to. And will they also look at parents/taxis stopping on pedestrian crossings to let children alight or pick up, and stopping at or near a junction that has other vehicles waiting to turn into it.
And will they make sure that if there are no waiting zig zags outside a school that they are supported by legislation and have an appropriate legal sign informing drivers not to stop, as it is not illegal without such signs.
And will they have sufficent lighting placed outside a school so that minors or juveniles can be seen better and for them to wear something bright or reflective during darker hours, not just dark trousers and dark jackets.
And will they have crossing wardens particularly at High Schools to instruct such juveniles to stop and look before they wander out into the road onto a pedestrian crossing without the obvious need to look if a car or other vehicle is coming their way from behind them.
And will a member of staff or a police officer please stand outside a school and for once report offenders and not let them go unspoken to.
And finally if there is, God forbid, a free car park with an excess of parking bays not being used and should that free to use car park [or even a pay park] be within say no more that 100 yards of the school’s entrance and on the same side of the road. then could that car park, or that part of it not be used, be used safely for the putting down and collection of such children.
It seems simples to me, or is it that I am simpless?
Common sense, come back all is forgiven.
