JRSOs prepare for duty

Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) from Buckinghamshire recently attended an informative conference which introduced them to their important role.

The conference was a fun and educational day with activities, crafts, games and workshops to help the JRSOs develop their roles. They were also given ideas for events and competitions they can run, and where they can get further information and resources to help them carry out their duties.

Transport for Buckinghamshire’s travel planning team was joined by the county’s fire and rescue service who demonstrated how they rescue victims from car crashes. Thames Valley Police used role play to cover enforcement and the consequences of bad behaviour near roads.

Valerie Letheren, cabinet member for transportation, said: “The JRSOs play a very important role in promoting school travel initiatives and projects. It is always encouraging to see so many enthusiastic children attending the event. The feedback from the JRSOs and their helpers is always very positive.”
