Lifewise Centre scoops Prince Michael Award

The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership has received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its work at the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham.

The Lifewise Centre is a learning facility with safety and life choices at its core. A wide range of road safety programmes are co-ordinated through the Centre including initiatives aimed at young drivers, people driving for work, powered two wheeler riders, pedal cyclists, mobility scooter users, elderly drivers and pedestrians.

The award was presented to chief superintendent Keith Lumley, chair of the Safer Roads Partnership, and superintendent Eddie Murphy, head of the South Yorkshire Police Community Safety Department during a visit to the Lifewise Centre on 29 October.

The visit included a performance on the Lifewise set depicting the aftermath and consequences of a fatal road traffic collision. This performance and others like it are incorporated into community safety programmes at Lifewise to highlight the consequences of actions and the value of citizenship.

Adrian Walsh, director of the Prince Michael Awards scheme, said: The judges noted the depth and thoroughness of the Centre’s programmes and were particularly impressed by the way that road safety is being integrated into an overall community safety education scheme.”
