Long-serving RSO sets up publishing and creative consultancy

John Billington, who has more than 25 years’ experience in road safety, has set up his own consultancy producing road safety publications and other resources.

John, who has been producing road safety publications for Sandwell Council for 23 years, has now left the council to set up Room 9 Media.

John, who was also a member of the Road Safety GB web & comms team for 10 years, said: “When Sandwell announced that they would no longer be producing and selling road safety publications I immediately asked if they would consider letting me take them on.

“After much negotiating they kindly allowed me to do so and I will continue to develop and sell these resources – but will also be working on a string of exciting new projects.

“I’ve specialised over the years in producing publications and campaigns that are a bit different and strive to communicate a relevant message in a way which is dynamic, well researched and current. My speciality is to reach children and young people.

“I’m also looking to work in partnership with road safety and sustainability teams to develop new creative projects. This could mean working with their existing ideas or developing new ones and seeing projects through to completion. I will of course be also looking to work with people in related or comparable disciplines.”

John works in partnership with a number of talented and reliable freelancers including photographers, designers, illustrators, web builders and printers. “I’ve always tried to work with the best people who don’t charge the earth, and who are also reliable and trustworthy,” he said.

You’ve missed those first 2 years at Brum CC from your CV when we all worked hard to remove the gauche northern from you and turn you into a well-rounded RSO. All the best for the future with your venture.
