Gary Lineker, former England international and presenter of Match of the Day, will front an event in Manchester later this month which will signify the free nationwide availability of the Drive IQ software.

Drive IQ is has been developed by a2om cic, which describes its mission as “to save and protect the lives of young people on UK roads through better knowledge and education”. a2om provides free resources for schools and colleges to enable them to introduce the concept of learning to drive (and the dangers associated with it) to Year 11-13 students.

Sarah Rowley, CEO of a2om cic, said: “Drive IQ concentrates on how your attitude and behaviour may affect the odds of being involved in a car crash.

“It is state-of-the-art, evidence-based, award winning, easy to implement and totally free. Every school/college we have visited so far has taken up the programme, that’s more than 200 schools and 27,000 students, and more than 90% aim to incorporate it into curriculum time in some shape or form.”

a2om received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in Nov 2011 for the Drive IQ pilot programme in West Sussex.

The launch event on 20 March will allow representatives from all schools/colleges in Greater Manchester to see first hand how the programme works.

Speakers at the event will include Gary Lineker, Dr Lisa Dorn, reader in driver behavior at Cranfield University, and
Avi Silverman, director of communications for the Make Roads Safe Campaign.

While the Manchester event is primarily for those based in the area, places can be made available to others interested in attending, subject to availability. If you would like to attend, or for more information, contact Sarah Rowley on 01483 604019 or visit: www.a2omcic.org
