Young cyclists in Caldicot have participated in the first National Standards cycle training to be offered in Monmouthshire.
Carolyn Derosaire, road safety consultant with Capita Symonds, said: “The course tested their skills in cycle control, showed the importance of wearing the right gear and covered cycle maintenance, which unfortunately highlighted that some participants’ bikes were unroadworthy. It also tackled the biggest hurdle of all, cycling in traffic.
“Road sense and common sense were the building blocks of this no-nonsense experience. Control and observational skills were tested to the limit and these young road users were not found wanting.”
10 year old Alexander Punt said: “The thing I enjoyed most was riding around Caldicot and learning more about the road…dodging parked cars, going through the middle of speed bumps and signalling to the cars behind.”
