Motorcycle safety expert deputy chief constable David Griffin will feature in two sessions at the 2013 National Road Safety Conference.

The conference will take place in Harrogate, 13-14 November 2013, and will be hosted by the Road Safety GB Yorkshire and Humberside Region. More than 170 people have already registered to attend the event, which is sponsored by Colas, AA DriveTech and FirstCar.

DCC Griffin (Humberside Police) is Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) lead for motorcycle safety. He will deliver a presentation titled ‘Is BikeSafe bridging the gap’, and also be a panellist for the ‘Question Time’ session. The other confirmed panellists are Chris Boardman MBE (British Cycling), Catriona Henderson (DfT) and Jim Kirkwood (AA Driving Services).

David Griffin joined Humberside Police in 2005 as deputy chief constable, where he currently holds the portfolios for professional standards and corporate development.

He has been riding motorcycles since he was 16. While he has never taken to two wheels as a traffic officer, his commitment and passion for motorcycling and motorcycle safety led to him take up his national motorcycle safety portfolio in 2004 as assistant chief constable in Cheshire.

DCC Griffin led the development of a new strategy for BikeSafe as well as drawing up a national framework for co-ordinated police enforcement to reduce two wheel casualties.

Since taking up the national portfolio he has built upon strong partnerships within the motorcycle industry, the Government, training bodies and rider groups to work towards a mutual goal of reducing casualties and promoting safe two wheeled use in the UK.

I just hope that he is in contact with other regular motorcyclists. Would love to be there but cant afford it. Won’t be paid for out of LA expenses but from my own pocket.
