The Kirklees Road Safety Partnership has commissioned a local songwriter to write and record a song to highlight the tragic consequences of drink driving in the run up to Christmas.
‘A Thousand Tears’, penned by Brighouse musician Roger Davies, paints a picture of loss after a loved one has died in a car crash. The song, which was launched last week along with an accompanying video, aims to make people stop and think of the devastating effects of losing a loved one on the roads.
The video features well-known roads and landmarks around the district, coupled with casualty statistics.
Chris Kirby, district commander for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and chair of the Kirklees Road Safety Partnership, said: “This song is very moving, so we hope it will make people take notice and think before getting behind the wheel.
“There are a number of ongoing projects in Kirklees aimed at improving road safety awareness and it has been a really positive response since the idea of a road safety song emerged.”
The songwriter, Roger Davies, said: “I sincerely hope the people who hear the song will take it on board because there’s nothing worse than hearing about another tragic waste of life.
“If my music is able to make a positive contribution, no matter how small, then I will be happy.”
