Hampshire Constabulary has produced a pair of dashboard stickers outlining the new speed limits for HGVs, and is happy to provide the artwork to other police forces and road safety teams.
As of 6 April, the speed limit for Goods Vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes increased from 40mph to 50mph on single carriageways, and from 50mph to 60mph on dual carriageways.
Sergeant Rob Heard, Hampshire Police’s road safety sergeant, said: “The majority of commercial vehicle drivers do drive considerately and legitimately.
“However, companies and drivers who choose to ignore the rules not only put other motorists at risk, but also gain an unfair competitive advantage over those businesses using roads responsibly.
“On average 650 casualties in Hampshire are injured each year from collision involving this type of vehicle, which represents 11% of the casualties occurring across the force.
“The two ‘Know Your Limits’ stickers are intended for Goods Vehicle drivers who may exceed the speed limit, sometimes not realising they are doing so as they do not know the restrictions which apply on certain roads.”
