Hub acts as ‘one-stop-shop’ for road safety in Gloucestershire

A new online resource has enabled more than 500 Gloucestershire residents to easily voice their road safety concerns since its inception.

Launched last autumn, the Road Safety Community Engagement Hub is designed to act as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for communities to register concerns over the condition of roads in their locality, or the behaviour of drivers using them.

The Hub was created by the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership* (GRSP), who says the resource doesn’t replace any existing services, but is an ‘enhancement that compliments everything we do’.

When launching the Hub in October 2016, Martin Surl, Gloucestershire’s police and crime commissioner, said: “During my first term in office it became clear that councillors, police [officers], organisations and individuals had concerns over road safety but the work wasn’t going to one central place. At times it was being duplicated because it wasn’t co-ordinated.

“So it seemed common sense to me to create one central hub to bring together the expertise of the police, engineers and the road safety experts to provide a better, more efficient way of resolving the problems encountered in our towns and villages.”

A spokersperson for GRSP said: “This new hub is a quick and easy way for residents to share their concerns and ideas with the relevant parties and decision makers.

“By working more closely with our partners and helping communities to influence changes, together we will be able to improve road safety in Gloucestershire.”

*GRSP comprises teams from Gloucestershire Police, the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner, Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service.
