The Walk4Life team has produced a range of free resources designed to increase physical activity by encouraging children to walk to school.
The Walk4Life website is funded by the Department for Health and BIG Lottery and is part of the bigger ‘Change4Life’ umbrella programme.
The resources are aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils and include curriculum links to maths, ICT, geography and citizenship. They are colourful and contain fun activity ideas.
The resources allow pupils to find their house on interactive Ordnance Survey maps, from which they can map their walk to school. The Walk4Life website also keeps track of all the miles walked and lets the pupils join a challenge.
The programme also includes more obscure activities. Pupils can, for example, find out how long it would take for their whole school to walk to the moon if everyone walked two miles a day.
The website is safe for children as users can stay completely anonymous and mapped walks can be private.
