New road safety ISO will help businesses

The new road safety ISO 39001 2012 will be invaluable in helping businesses and public organisations to reduce crashes for those who drive for work, according to RoadSafe.

The ISO specifies requirements for a road traffic safety (RTS) management system to enable an organisation to reduce death and serious injuries related to road traffic crashes which it can influence.

The requirements in the ISO include: the development and implementation of an appropriate RTS policy; and development of RTS objectives and action plans, which take into account legal and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes. It also includes information about elements and criteria related to RTS that the organisation identifies as those which it can control and those which it can influence.

RoadSafe was represented on the British committee which helped to draft the ISO and is also actively involved in the work of the UN Road Safety Collaboration which is promoting the adoption of the new standard across the world as part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety.
