New sustainable school travel website launched

A new website promoting sustainable travel to pupils has been launched by Gateshead Council.

Gateshead Council’s school travel advisers developed the new site after many years of helping schools develop School Travel Plans. It contains ready-to-use resources for teachers to download, as well as an interactive area for pupils.

All resources have been specifically designed to promote walking, cycling and use of public transport. TravelMatters is an efficient and cost-effective method to help meet the statutory duty under the Education & Inspections Act (2006).

Resources include lesson plans and PowerPoints (for use on interactive whiteboard), templates for classroom displays, and role play and performance-based learning for pupils. The site also incorporates the Try Travel Matters page, where sample resources may be viewed.

An annual licence for TravelMatters can be purchased by a local authority for all their schools, or alternatively schools may purchase on an individual basis.

For more information contact Siobhan Bowery or Terry Fay on 0191 433 3109 / 0191 433 3161.
