‘Payback’ for drink drivers

A driver training organisation has launched a scheme in which convicted drink drivers contribute towards the education of young drivers.
 
The TTC Group, the UK’s largest provider of alcohol education courses for drink drivers, has linked up with Northern Ireland’s Fire and Rescue Service for the initiative.
 
Part of the drink drive course fee paid by convicted drink drivers, who attend alcohol education classes held at Northern Ireland fire stations, will go towards buying an interactive driving simulator for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. The portable simulator will be used at road safety events to educate children, new drivers and existing road users.
 
Jenny Wynn, TTC Group director, said: “It is a unique scheme. This is the first time that money paid by drink drivers will go towards paying for training equipment to educate other drivers so that they don’t get involved in accidents.  We feel that this gift of a driving simulator is a great way to give something back to the community in Northern Ireland.”
