Pupils learn about driving responsibilities

South Lanarkshire pupils have been learning about the responsibilities involved in becoming a driver through the road safety play, Friends Disunited.

The play, which is aimed at senior secondary school pupils, follows four friends, one of whom gets a new car for their birthday.

The car will be their passage into adulthood but it isn’t long before friendships begin to fragment as the play culminates in a car crash that leaves their lives badly affected.

Councillor John Murray, said: “This is a wonderfully thought-provoking play which is very funny at times but contains a very serious message.

“We have to engage our young people in a way they will find entertaining but still ensuring the road safety message is relayed. The play did this brilliantly.”
