Rhinos on the (road safety) charge

16.22 | 3 July 2009 |

Stars from Leeds Rhinos Rugby League team have joined forces with the city’s road safety team to tackle the casualty toll among young scooter riders.

Across Leeds last year 22 young riders aged 16-20 years were killed or seriously injured on machines of less than 125cc. Now a group of Rhinos’ players are doing their bit to help drive home important safety messages to young riders.

The council is offering free ‘Scootsafe’ coaching sessions to young riders to build on the basic training they have already had.

Rhinos’ winger Scott Donald said: "Young riders need to remember they are vulnerable on the roads, and the best way for them to stay safe is to get extra training and always wear protective clothing."
