A new scheme to deter parents from parking on zig zags outside schools is being piloted in Rochdale.
The junior police community support officer (JPCSO) scheme is being piloted in five schools for a four-week period. The scheme has been developed by The Impact Partnership, who manage road safety on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council.
Jacqui Hogg, community liaison officer at the Impact Partnership, said: "We all know that parking outside schools on zigzag lines is very dangerous, as pedestrian views are restricted and drivers cannot see children stepping out from in between cars.
"We hope that this joint approach of working with the PCSOs, pupils and the schools will raise awareness and hopefully change people’s parking habits outside the school gates.
"So far it is going very well, with drivers finding alternative places to park or even walking to school."
