PACTS is inviting road safety professionals to attend the UK launch of The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, which will be staged in London as part of a 24-hour rolling global event.

To further raise awareness of the launch, fire and rescue services are planning events at motorway service areas across the country. The Chief Fire Officers’ Association is inviting partners to join these events, which will focus on speed.

Officially unveiled by the UN General Assembly in March 2010, the Decade of Action provides a framework for countries and communities to focus on saving lives on the world’s roads.

The UK launch on 11 May is being staged by PACTS with support from The FIA Foundation for the Automobile in Society and RoadSafe. Speakers at the event will include Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, chairman of commission for global road safety. Phillip Hammond, secretary of state for transport, has also been invited.
