The number of people killed or seriously injured at Scotland’s safety camera sites was 56% lower after enforcement, according to a report published on 20 October by the country’s chief statistician.

The report, ‘Key Scottish Safety Camera Programme Statistics 2009’, presents key statistics relating to the activity of the Scottish Safety Camera Programme for the 10-year period from the start of 2000 to the end of 2009.

It also found that after enforcement the number of personal injury accidents at camera sites is 39% lower, and average speeds and the number of people exceeding the speed limit are also lower.

The report also says that the number of people issued with a fixed penalty after being caught exceeding the speed limit or running a red light at camera sites has reduced by more than a half over the last five years.
