Steve Baker, recently retired head of RoSPA in Wales, has been rewarded for decades of road safety work by being made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Steve Baker dedicated almost 40 years of his life to improving the safety of roads in Wales, by providing expert advice and information and practical, advanced driver training.
A key feature of his career was encouraging and enabling councils and police forces to share expertise and resources and to conduct work on a Wales-wide basis to avoid wasteful duplication. Steve also worked very closely with the road safety unit of the Welsh Government, playing a key role in the development and implementation of the Wales Road Safety Strategy.
Kevin Clinton, RoSPA’s head of road safety, said: “Steve’s contribution to road safety has benefitted everyone who uses the roads in Wales.
“Steve stands out from so many others in this field because he has been such a passionate and selfless advocate for road safety in Wales for many years, making himself available at almost any time to help thousands of individuals, companies and the media with his down-to-earth expertise.”
