Super-hero recruited for car seat crusade

Portsmouth’s road safety team has launched a super-hero themed campaign to help parents make sure their seats will protect their children in a crash.

Last summer, nine out of 10 seats failed safety tests by the city council road safety team.

The new campaign includes free child car seat checks in supermarket car parks, with free booklets and stickers for kids and leaflets for parents, online advice, and posters in schools and a postcard for each pupil in the city to take home.

Nicola Waight, road safety co-ordinator, said: “Last year we had a 90% fail rate on seats that we checked. Most were fitted incorrectly but many were incompatible with the model of car.

"We’re using a light-hearted super-hero theme for our campaign, but it’s a very serious message we’re trying to get across to parents and carers."
