13 road safety teams will promote a drink drive message during the forthcoming World Cup during June and July 2014, utilising resources produced by a road safety communications consultancy.
Stennik has produced three creative treatments to deliver a drink drive message to football fans during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Eight of the authorities are promoting a ‘morning after’ drink drive message throughout 2014 as part of the Morning After campaign, while a further five have bought into the campaign specifically while the World Cup is being staged.
Sally Bartrum, project manger for the Morning After campaign, said: “Traditionally, many fans enjoy a drink while watching football, often in large groups for the England matches.
“With many of the matches taking place during the evening or later at night, there is a potential heightened risk of people drinking while watching the games and then driving the following morning without realising they are still over the legal drink drive limit.
“The Morning After campaign reminds people how long it takes for alcohol to pass through the body, which is considerably longer than many people think.
“The campaign is designed to help normally responsible people from inadvertently driving while over the limit, and risking a drink-drive conviction or, worse still, causing a crash and casualties.”
The participating authorities are: Cambridgeshire CC, Cornwall Council, Croydon Council, Gloucestershire CC, London Borough of Havering, North Somerset Council, Peterborough City Council, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Safer Roads Humber, Solihull MBC, South Gloucestershire Council, Suffolk CC and Wirral Council.
