A new production of a road safety play and workshop has received excellent reviews from teachers following a recent tour of primary schools in the London Borough of Bexley.

Bexley Council’s road safety team commissioned Box Clever Theatre* to tour the area with the new version of its Car Story performance. The updated performance features new safety messages including the increasing use of technology among primary school pupils.

Box Clever says post-show teacher evaluation shows “100% agreement that the show grabbed students’ attention, encouraged them to think about road safety and walking to work”.

Michael Wicherek, artistic director of Box Clever Theatre, said: “Our road safety work is an important aspect of what we do and we were delighted to bring this story up-to-date and engage a new director to add a new perspective this important message.”

A teacher from Danson Primary School said the performance got pupils “to think about iPods in the future when they are older and crossing the road”.

The production and workshop toured 14 schools across Bexley and was seen by a total of 1,282 pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5.
