Bike Week has a new sponsor and has adopted the theme ‘Everyday cycling for everyone’ for 2010.

The ‘Team Green Britain’ Bike Week 2010, 19-27 June, will challenge people to rethink everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.

Team Green Britain, founded by EDF Energy, is a movement that enables people to live in a more sustainable way. It aims to help people reduce their carbon footprint by 2012 and provide advice on how to make everyday journeys as sustainable as possible.

Philip Darnton, chair of Cycling England, said: “This sponsorship will help further mainstream cycling and recruit more people than ever during Bike Week.

“We hope the extra support for event organisers will inspire more events, helping people re-discover the benefits of a healthier, more convenient, greener lifestyle.”

Just like there are books and pamphlets available to car and motorcycle drivers, indeed every other road user, wouldnt it be a good idea that one be published solely for the use of bikers. All about the lawful requirements ie a bell and lights at night and pavements and roundabouts and traffic lights to name but a few, together with where they can [ and they can ] obtain third party insurance and their responsibilities and liabilities in the event of an accident [not just to ride away]

Maybe some powerful cycling association can sponsor this and show some mature and responsible attitude to its members and the public at large.

    Not biased but practical.
