An event in Bedfordshire has encouraged bikers to be more aware of their own safety, while at the same time raising valuable funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The ‘Ride Free’ event on 27 March, organised by Amey on behalf of Central Bedfordshire Council, attracted 800 motorbikes and almost 1,000 visitors, and raised £900 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The ‘Bikesafe’ team from Bedfordshire Police gave assessed ride-outs with local motorcyclists to review how they currently ride and provide practical hints and tips to keep them safe in the future.
There was also the opportunity for non-riders to have their first experience on a motorbike or moped through the national ‘Get On’ scheme, which SMART Motorcycle Training brought to the event.
Ken Fox’s ‘Wall of Death Troupe’, a trained team of motorbike riders, performed tricks and stunts throughout the day. The Troupe donated half of their takings for the day to the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Paul Airton, area fundraising manager (Bedfordshire) for the Air Ambulance, said: "We would like to thank everyone who donated so generously to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, including the kind contribution from Ken Fox’s Troupe. The work of the Air Ambulance could not continue without the support of local people and organisations.
