New signs, gloves, collapsible cones and EN-standard cycle jackets were showcased at the 2014 ROSPA Road Safety Conference in Birmingham, where Keltic Clothing launched its new range of safety clothing and products for cyclists and cycling instructors.
Louise Bennett, from Keltic Clothing, said: “We were delighted that the launch was on our ‘home turf’ just down the road from our premises in Walsall.
“We are particularly looking forward to seeing the reaction to our new jacket, which is the only stock-backed cycle jacket that conforms to the European standard EN471 Class 3.”
It is a legal requirement for cycle instructors to wear clothing that meets the European standard EN471 Class 2 or Class 3 if working on the roads.
A news item on the website on this topic produced a healthy discussion thread in which Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “A highway worker is required to wear PPE appropriate to the class of road on which he/she is working and these staff (cycle instructors) are no different, except that they are responsible not only for the safety of themselves and their fellow workers but also for school children 10 or 11 years of age.”
