The Road Safety Strategy has five consultations running alongside the document. The consultations provide significant opportunity to introduce new legislation, update current regulation and inform enhancements to outdated guidance.

The five consultations are:

1. Motoring Offences

2. Introducing a minimum learning period for learner drivers (category B driving licence)

3. Introducing mandatory eyesight testing for older drivers

4. Improving moped and motorcycle training, testing and licensing (categories AM, A1, A2 and A driving licence)

5. Mandating vehicle safety technologies in GB type approval

Road Safety GB has been working alongside other road safety stakeholders in a collective approach to the Road Safety Strategy through a group convened by PACTS (Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety).

Road Safety GB have set out draft consultation responses which may help with forming local responses. The links to these are in the bullet points above.

Road Safety GB would like to hear from members regarding any information, points or views they would like the RGSB Board to consider before final responses are submitted to DfT. Please contact James Gibson, executive director Road Safety GB by 30 April 2026.

Note the deadline for consultation responses to DfT is 11 May 2026.
