Registration is open for GEM Motoring Assist’s forthcoming webinar, ‘Summer holiday driving in Europe’, hosted by Valerie Singleton OBE.
The free-to-attend event takes place on Tuesday 16 April (2pm), and is the second of four webinars during 2024 delivered in partnership with the Older Drivers Forum.
Valerie has a long and successful relationship with GEM. As well as presenting the organisation’s ‘Still Safe to Drive’ web resource for senior drivers and their families, she remains a regular contributor to GEM’s quarterly membership magazine, Good Motoring.
Valerie’s co-host is Rob Heard, who chairs the Older Drivers Forum. They will be joined by:
- Alan Wakely, historian and Good Motoring writer, who will explain some of the best ways of exploring northern France – with particular reference to key locations from the two World Wars.
- Kevin and Tracey Field, creators of the ‘Confident Drivers’ podcast. If you’re at all anxious about driving abroad, they will have some tips on calming nerves and boosting confidence.
- Neil Barrett, technology expert and Good Motoring contributor. Neil drove his electric car all the way to the northernmost point in Europe and back in 2023, visiting 12 countries in the process. He will consider the practicalities of touring in a EV, as well as providing tips on hiring a car abroad.
- Keith Smith-Dutton, GEM member and experienced motorhome enthusiast. Keith has travelled all over the UK and Europe in motorhomes. He will provide practical tips on driving and overnight stops as well as sharing some of his motorhome holiday memories.
- James Luckhurst, Good Motoring editor, with tips on driving in France and a selection of unusual traffic rules from across Europe.
Valerie Singleton OBE said: “I have always loved driving abroad. I can remember one of my first journeys which took me and a friend through France, Italy and Yugoslavia to reach Greece. It was such an exciting adventure.
“Both Brexit and Covid-19 brought a halt to a lot of overseas travel, and many of us are still unsure about the rules for driving abroad. Through this webinar we hope you inspire you with some great ideas – as well as offering practical tips to ensure your adventure runs smoothly.
“I do hope you’ll join us as we offer you some useful information and hopefully a glimpse of warm summer sunshine as well. Do join us on Tuesday 16 April at 2pm.”
