Road safety professionals from across the UK and well beyond are gathering in Birmingham this week for the 2024 National Road Safety Conference.
Held in November each year, the National Road Safety Conference (NRSC) is Road Safety GB’s flagship annual event. The 2024 edition takes place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 6-7 November. It is co-sponsored by Jenoptik, National Highways, Transport for West Midlands and Westcotec.
NRSC 2024 has attracted road safety professionals from across the globe – among the 360+attendees there are delegates, speakers and exhibitors from countries including Ireland, Belgium, France, Portugal, Bermuda, New Zealand, Sweden, Australia and USA.
Thirty-four organisations are represented at the exhibition which runs alongside the conference – the most exhibitors in the event’s 14-year history.
The programme for NRSC 2024 comprises a remarkable 38 main conference presentations, 34 fringe presentations, plus four workshops and the annual Question Time session.
Lilian Greenwood MP, minister for the future of roads, will deliver the opening keynote, and in doing so will become the first minister to deliver an in-person presentation at NRSC.
The opening session also includes a welcome from Richard Parker, mayor of the West Midlands, an update from the THINK! campaign, courtesy of Laura Butterfield, head of marketing at the DfT and an international Vision Zero presentation from Dr Anna Vadeby from the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute.
Other main conference sessions will examine active travel, the role of technology in casualty reduction and deprivation in road safety.
Sam Merison, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “With more than 360 total attendees, this year’s conference is going to be the second biggest yet – comfortably surpassing the 318 who attended the 2018 conference in Brighton, and very close to the 370 who attended in 2023.
“Combined with more than 70 presentations across the Main and Fringe programmes, and 34 exhibitors, NRSC can justifiably claim to be the UK’s largest dedicated event for road safety professionals.”
