The winners have been announced for the fifth ‘All Wales Multimedia Competition’ which challenged schools, colleges and youth groups across Wales to devise, perform and record an anti drink drive multimedia presentation for Christmas 2012.
An entry from Yale College in Wrexham, titled ‘Where’s Nan?’, shows the effects of the loss of a well-loved family member on those left behind.
An animation by students from Pembrokeshire College, Dyfed Powys, titled ‘Nightclub’ highlights how easily one drink can lead to another, with serious and possibly catastrophic consequences.
Bridgend College produced the regional winning entry for South Wales with a film called ‘Results Day’, which addresses the issues of young people drinking before they have even started their night out.
The winning entry for the Gwent area comes from Ebbw Vale College. ‘SatNav’ uses humour to deliver a serious message about the perils of drinking and driving.
Susan Storch, chair of Road Safety Wales, said: “I would like to congratulate all who participated in the competition, not just the winners, but everyone from across Wales, who took the time and effort to consider this vitally important message.
“The festive season should be a time when people enjoy themselves. Unfortunately too many drivers are still prepared to risk driving under the influence of drink or drugs. No one should be in any doubt that alcohol, in any amount, will have a detrimental effect on driving ability.
“I hope these films will bring the message home to all who see them, that drinking and driving is gambling with your licence, your life and the lives of other people.”
