Tens of thousands of new cyclists are set to participate in the second national Cycle to Work Day on Thursday 4 September, according to the organisers Cyclescheme*.
Cycle to Work Day is a national event championed by the multi gold medal winning Paralympic cyclist, Dame Sarah Storey, which aims to encourage people to take to two wheels and cycle to work for just one day.
Cyclescheme says that around 760,000 people in the UK cycle to work regularly and that the number keeps growing steadily. By 2021, Cyclescheme hopes to see one million people regularly commuting to work by bike.
Scores of employers will be putting on events for colleagues in a bid to stage Britain’s ‘Biggest Bike Breakfast’, and hundreds of independent bike shops will offer free bike ‘health checks’ for participants.
Dame Sarah Storey said: “The campaign is a great way to raise the profile of everyday cycling in the UK, and will hopefully help show people that you don’t need to be a professional athlete to cycle to work!”
