National Conference 2014: 32 presentations and three discussion sessions

The 2014 National Road Safety Conference will comprise 32 presentations and three panel discussion sessions, spread across the main and fringe programmes.

The Conference is being held in Brighton on 25-26 November. The event is being hosted by Road Safety GB South East region and sponsored by Colas, AA DriveTech and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership. More than 260 people have registered to attend across the two days and the exhibition that runs alongside the conference is fully subscribed.

The main conference programme comprises 20 presentations and three panel discussions spread across six sessions covering partnership working, social media, automated driving, cycling and topical topics.

The fringe programme is new for this year, and comprises 12 presentations across three sessions that will run concurrent with the main programme. Delegates will be free to move between the main and fringe programmes to take in the presentations that most interest them.

Recent additions to the fringe programme include:

• The Fatal Four: Cause and Effect young driver website, presented by Paul Speight, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

• Road Safety for Makaton Users, presented by Elaine Beckett, Hackney Council and London Road Safety Council.

• Cognitive impairment and pedestrian fatalities in Northern Ireland, presented by Dr Elaine Hardy, Right to Ride.

• Exchanging Places cyclist/driver awareness action day, presented by Keith Baldock, Brighton & Hove Council.

• Cycling for children with Dyspraxia and special educational needs, presented by Wendy Jennings, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There are still a few delegate places available but anyone thinking of attending is being advised to book as soon as possible. The cut off date for bookings is Friday 7 November.
