Road safety minister Andrew Jones is to speak at the 2015 National Road Safety Conference* where he will outine his vision for safety on the UK’s roads over the coming years.
Mr Jones, who will appear via video link, will speak as part of ‘the big picture’, the first session of the conference on Wednesday 18 November.
The Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough was appointed parliamentary under secretary of state at the DfT, with responsibility for road safety, in May 2015 following the General Election.
Elected in 2010, he has been a Parliamentary Private Secretary on the health, business and transport teams.
He has also chaired the Northern Electrification Taskforce which provided the Secretary of State for Transport with advice on the next steps for electrification of railways in the North of England.
Mr Jones’ portfolio also includes responsibility for local and national roads and Highways England.
The ‘big picture’ session will also feature representatives from Road Safety GB, the National Police Chief’s Council, the DfT, CFOA and Highways England.

We run our conference as a professional training event and aim only to cover our costs. We have a discounted rate for our members and a second scale for everyone else – which is common practice in many fields.
We are very conscious of the need to be as cost effective as possible for every delegate and their employers – we are also taxpayers!
Thanks to the involvement of exhibitors and sponsors, the fees we set are significantly lower than they would otherwise need to be to cover the full cost of each delegate’s attendance. Exhibitors pay fees, and our sponsors support selected elements of the conference – we do not permit our conference to have a single or even two sponsors in order to prevent any undue influence or expectation or appearance of influence. Without their support we would have to charge the sort of fees already in place with commercial conference organisers – often £395, £495 or more per day.

The prices pretty much rule out involvement by anyone not funded by the taxpayer or sizable companies!
