Free course for older drivers in South Yorkshire

The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership has developed a free course to help older people to continue to drive safely.

The course, being held at the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham on 10 December, provides advice and information tailored to meet the needs of older drivers, plus an in-car coaching session to brush up driving skills.

PC Mick Hedges, who has developed the course, said: “Older drivers have amassed a wealth of experience over their driving career. The course aims to bring their knowledge up to date and help them to drive safer for longer, to maintain their mobility and independence.”

Andy Warburton, from Safety 1st Driving Academy who will help deliver the course, said: “We’re really excited to have an opportunity to help our more senior citizens to continue to be safe and considerate drivers. What’s more we are able to offer this free of charge through our work with the Safer Roads Partnership, so it won’t cost drivers a penny.”
