
The festive period is well and truly upon us, but at the Road Safety GB Academy, all eyes are on 2026.
With its team of trainers, the Academy has been working hard to put together a calendar of courses that will help road safety professionals make 2026 the year of development.
From the Safe System approach, through to print and broadcast media, the Academy has all aspects of road safety covered in its courses between January and May.
The 2026 calendar of courses, which are all delivered via Zoom unless stated otherwise, is as follows:
14-15 January 2026
Safe System Course (two days)
This two-day course explores a range of subjects associated with implementing a Safe System, including: Safe Speeds, Safe Roads and Roadsides, Safe Vehicles, Safe Road Users and Post-Crash Response. The course has a strong focus on the need to work in partnership, not only with road safety professionals but the wider community. This course is suitable for those who design or deliver road safety interventions.

This half-day course, delivered with media expert Rebecca Morris, will cover a range of topics, including: Understanding the media landscape, defining a newsworthy story, storytelling with impact, responding to negative or challenging coverage and preparing for radio/TV interviews.

Half-day Social and digital marketing course
This half-day course, delivered by Chris Wolstenholme, will provide an overview of social media, covering the platforms, demographics and target reach. Among other things, it will consider age restrictions to be aware of especially with work in school settings, and the role of corporate communications within organisations in relation to social media.

Road Safety Practitioner Foundation Course
This course aims to provide participants with an overview of the knowledge and skills they need to effectively and safely deliver a road safety educational intervention. Introduction to the Needs of Older Road Users
As the population ages it will become increasingly important for road safety practitioners to understand the needs of older road users. This is a complex area and covers a wide range of medical conditions and societal challenges. This course will introduce a road safety practitioner to these challenges, with the aim of helping them to develop road safety interventions that will support older road users, in order to maximise their safety.

The Ageing Driver (ADI Training Course)
This course is ideal for any Approved Driving Instructor or Potential Driving Instructor who wishes to learn more about how to support an older driver and who has limited experience in this area. The course will develop an ADI’s understanding of: common collisions experienced by older drivers; how the ageing process may impact on eyesight, hazard perceptions skills and strength and flexibility; the need to promote self-assessment skills and how to prepare for driving retirement.

This course is essential CPD learning for civil highway engineers, urban planners and other related disciplines around the development of infrastructure that will impact on the safety of road users.
