Motorists across South Lanarkshire are being encouraged to take part in the annual ‘In Town Without My Car Day’ on 22 September.

During the event town centre streets across Europe will close to traffic to allow people to enjoy walking, cycling, street theatre, live music, dancing, public art and children’s play areas.

Councillor John Murray, said: “The event aims to highlight the importance of reducing our carbon footprint. The long term view is to improve town and city climates and create peacefulness, liveability, quality of life, improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.”
