With a little over a month to go until Project EDWARD 2017, TISPOL is ramping up efforts to promote the event.
Project EDWARD 2017 takes place on 21 September and looks to encourage drivers, riders and pedestrians to spare an extra thought for their safety.
The awareness-raising event first ran in September 2016 to ‘re-energise the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries on Europe’s roads’ – by drawing attention to the 70 deaths that occur on average each day on Europe’s roads.
It was was conceived by TISPOL – the European Traffic Police Network – whose work focuses on pan-European activity to make roads safer.
TISPOL’s long-term aim is to use Project EDWARD to spearhead significant and sustained reduction in death and serious injury on roads across the world.
Ahead of the 2017 event, TISPOL has published a short introductory video in 20 different languages. Social media assets for the 2017 campaign include a of simple illustrations covering 11 different road safety topics.
TISPOL has also set up a pledge page where road users can promise to set a good example to passengers by driving calmly and safely, and at speeds that are legal and safe.
Video pledges are also being encouraged, and in June TISPOL’s James Luckhurst toured the UK to record video messages of support, including one from Sonya Hurt, chair of Road Safety GB.
Other new initiatives for 2017 include a dedicated Twitter feed and a new website featuring campaign artwork and graphics that can be downloaded free of charge.
