Westcotec launches new standard temperature monitoring feature

Westcotec has announced that temperature monitoring technology will now be included as standard across its product range.

This new functionality enables Westcotec’s vehicle-activated signs to make automatic adjustments to their activation speed thresholds in response to changing weather conditions.

This enhanced safety feature is being offered at no extra cost to customers on new orders, and will be a retro-fittable feature for a small cost.

Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) are typically programmed to illuminate when vehicles exceed the speed limit by 10%, but the integrated sensor will allow the threshold to be reduced in colder or potentially hazardous conditions – providing drivers with potentially life-saving earlier warnings.

The feature is particularly valuable for bend warning signs, as well as signs situated at road junctions, where reduced grip and lower visibility can increase safety risks.

It is expected to be especially beneficial in Scotland and other regions used to challenging weather, reinforcing Westcotec’s commitment to delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions that prioritise road safety.

Olly Samways, sales director at Westcotec, said: “Our aim has always been to use technology to protect lives. By including temperature monitoring as standard, we’re giving road operators an additional tool to help reduce collisions in hazardous conditions – with no impact on their budgets.

“It’s a powerful example of how innovation and safety can go hand in hand.”

The announcement comes ahead of Westcotec’s participation at the Highways UK Show, where the company will showcase its latest developments in smart road safety solutions.
