Road Safety GB is delighted to announce a new partnership with Smart Start, which includes sponsorship of the 2026 National Road Safety Conference.
Smart Start is a global leader in products and services to control behaviour that negatively impacts road safety.
In addition to setting the standard in alcohol monitoring technology® with alcohol interlocks and portable alcohol monitoring devices deployed in programmes for drink driving offenders, Smart Start has recently introduced intervening ISA (Intelligent Speed Assistance) technology for use in preventive and rehabilitative programmes targeting high risk speeding offenders.
SpeedAware™ prevents a vehicle from exceeding the posted speed limit, monitors user compliance, and notifies administering authorities if a violation occurs.
Established in 1992, Smart Start and its affiliates are currently involved in road safety-related offender programmes in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Lithuania.
Locally, its goal is to become the United Kingdom’s trusted partner in road safety technology.
As part of these efforts, it has teamed up with Road Safety GB to sponsor the 2026 National Road Safety Conference.
Road Safety GB’s flagship event, NRSC 2026 is being held at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on 24-25 November. The event is also co-sponsored by long term supporters GEM Motoring Assist, Jenoptik, Waymo and Westcotec.
For the past two years around 400 road safety professionals have attended NRSC, and this year more than 250 people have already booked to do so.
In addition, more than 20 organisations have already signed up to exhibit alongside the conference.
Brandy Nannini, chief government affairs officer, Smart Start, said: “We are pleased to support Road Safety GB’s flagship annual conference and look forward to joining colleagues from across the road safety sector at the event.
“We are proud to be supporting the Lock Out Drink Driving and Stop Excessive Speeders campaigns, which are working to change the law in the UK so that common sense, evidence-led solutions can help save lives and make our roads safer.
“We look forward to the conference and to our continued partnership with Road Safety GB.”
In May, Ian Marples, Smart Start’s vice president of international business development, facilitated a webinar for Road Safety GB members, exploring how alcolocks work and the role they play in preventing drink-driving and keeping roads safer.
A recording of the webinar is available in the Road Safety GB members’ area.
Nicola Foster, Chair of Road Safety GB, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Smart Start for the National Road Safety Conference. Their driver-focused programmes have delivered outstanding results internationally in tackling drink driving and speeding, and have the potential to bring significant road safety benefits to the UK.
“At the heart of their approach is a commitment to creating lasting behavioural change, helping to break the cycle of repeat offending and making roads safer for everyone.”
