The Road Safety Trust is recruiting new members to its Board of Trustees, with a particular focus on individuals with expertise in finance, governance and risk management to support the charity’s Audit and Risk Committee.
The Trust, the UK’s largest independent grant funder of road safety initiatives, is seeking candidates who want to help shape its direction and contribute to efforts to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roads.
Since its establishment in 2014, the charity has funded more than 140 projects, awarding nearly £13 million in grants to support research and practical initiatives aimed at improving road safety.
The Trust is particularly keen to hear from candidates who have the required qualities to play an active role in the Audit and Risk Committee, which supports the chair, chief executive, head of finance and Board in overseeing the Trust’s financial reporting, risk management, internal controls and governance.
Responsibilities will include reviewing accounts, internal and external audit findings, key risks and investment policy, providing independent judgement and constructive challenge to help ensure the charity operates effectively.
The role requires an annual commitment that includes one risk workshop, at least three Audit and Risk Committee meetings – one of which will be held in person – and four Board meetings, with two taking place in person. Additional time will be needed to prepare for meetings.
The position is unpaid, although necessary travel expenses for Board and Committee meetings will be reimbursed. Trustees serve an initial three-year term and may be eligible for re-election in accordance with the Trust’s governing arrangements.
Further information, including the full role profile and details of how to apply, is available on The Road Safety Trust’s website.
