TfL announces further funding for cycle parking and training

Transport for London (TfL) has made a further £17m+ available for boroughs across London to make “key cycling improvements” in their local areas.

The money will be made available over three years for the creation of thousands of cycle parking spaces across London, and to provide training for cyclists and drivers.

TfL says that the Borough Cycling Programme will provide cycle training for thousands of Londoners of all ages, and around 15,000 drivers will take part in "Safer Urban Driver" courses. In some boroughs HGV drivers will be given specific cyclist awareness training.

Boris Johnson, mayor of London, said: “As part of my Cycling Vision, we are engaging in a £1billion programme of improvements to transform cycling in London.

“Making some of this money available directly to the boroughs will help ensure that cycling developments reach communities across the capital.”

Leon Daniels, managing director for surface transport at TfL, said: “All 32 boroughs and the City of London bid for, and received, funding through our Borough Cycling Programme.”
