Edmund King, president of the AA, is the first confirmed speaker for the 2014 National Road Safety Conference later this year.

The 2014 National Road Safety Conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB South East region at The Grand in Brighton, 25-26 November. The event is co-sponsored by Colas and AA DriveTech.

Edmund King will present in the session focusing on cycling and cyclists’ safety, and will update delegates with regard to the AA’s ‘Think bikes’ awareness campaign through which one million free stickers are being distributed to drivers as a reminder to do a ‘double-take’ in their mirrors for cycles and motorcycles in their blind spots.

The campaign also includes a short film titled ‘Now you see it’, which features a naked cyclist and has attracted almost 200,000 YouTube views.

Edmund King has a politics degree from Newcastle University and a postgraduate diploma in broadcasting from Santa Monica College, USA.  He has a background in research, media, civil service, commerce and extensive transport campaigns. He has written several reports on transport and often appears as a transport commentator on radio and television. Edmund is also a keen cyclist.

Mr King previously addressed delegates at the 2012 National Conference in London, when he called for ‘tribal harmony’ between motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists.

More than 100 delegates have already registered to attend the 2014 conference, and 13 organisations have booked to exhibit alongside the conference.
