The Road Safety GB Academy is to pilot a new training course intended to provide road safety practitioners with the skills to deliver an effective and engaging road safety intervention to primary school children.

The one-day course is being developed by the Academy in partnership with Ian Edwards who has previously helped develop the Road Safety Practitioner Foundation Course, the one-day Behaviour Change Course and the Client Centred Learning Course for ADIs.

The new course will be piloted in Rotherham on 22 March.

Sam Merison, head of the Road Safety GB Academy, said: “The course is designed for road safety professionals working in a Primary school setting and will be delivered by Nicky Fallon, a deputy headteacher in a large primary school.

“It aims to develop a practitioner’s ability to plan and deliver quality learning opportunities for primary aged children, ensuring activities are focused and promoting the involvement and engagement of all children.

“The course focuses on the characteristics of effective teaching and learning and is not meant to be specific to road safety. It is about how to teach and promote learning rather than what to teach.”

Going forward, the Academy will be looking to train people up to deliver this course, and is encouraging anyone interested in delivering the course to attend the pilot course if possible.

The pilot will be delivered at the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham on Tuesday 22 March. The course will commence at 9.00am and finish by 4.30pm.

The maximum number of attendees is 15 and the fee is £110 + VAT, which includes a buffet lunch.
