An independent trade magazine has praised the resilience of the driver training sector, after announcing the results of its annual awards.

The Intelligent Instructor Awards 2022 celebrated the ‘very best in class’ in the driver training industry, spanning instructors, driving schools, cars and suppliers to the industry.

This year’s award received a record 7,887 votes. These scores were combined with marks from an independent judging panel, to determine the winners.

The main award, Driving Instructor of the Year, was presented to Vern Whereat from Taunton.

There was also recognition for Ian McIntosh, who picked up the Services to the Driver Training Industry Award.

The full list of winners can be found at the foot of this article.

Richard Storrs, founder of Intelligent Instructor, said: “Like many other industries, the driver training sector is still recovering from the turbulence of the last couple of years.

“But it’s pleasing to see how resilient it’s been with how well it’s thriving with a record number of learners in the sector keeping instructors super busy.

“These awards once more seek to reward the very best instructors, driving schools and suppliers within the industry, from right across the country.

“This industry is often overlooked and unrewarded, and it shouldn’t be underestimated how important this industry is to helping make new drivers safer road users.”
