Charity calls for 20mph speed limit

Living Streets has called for a new 20mph speed limit across all residential roads in London to encourage a greater sense of safety and community.

Research from Living Streets found that around 14% of children play out on their street fives times a week, compared with 44% of their parents aged 30-40 who used to do so.

It says London’s streets are in danger of losing the social function they had in the past, as they shift from social hubs for the community to spaces considered no-go areas for children.

Earlier this year a London Assembly report recommended reducing speed limits on hundreds of London roads to 20mph, saying that the measure would lower road collisions.
