Gateshead’s head of transport will deliver a presentation at the National Road Safety Conference 2014 looking at the development and delivery of Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) projects in the Tyne and Wear region.

The presentation will be delivered by Nick Clennett who has more than 30 years’ experience in civil and municipal engineering and transport planning, in both the public and private sectors.

The Tyne and Wear Integrated Transport Authority has been awarded substantial funding from the LSTF for its ‘Go Smarter’ project which covers travel to school and work.

‘Schools Go Smarter’ is designed to get more children and families walking and cycling to school, while ‘Go Smarter to Work’ encourages businesses to help employees consider the options available for their journey to work.

In his presentation Nick Clennett will outline these two projects and share his experiences in development and delivery of them.

Nick has spent the last 10 years in senior management at Hartlepool and Gateshead councils, and has played a key role in a number of projects including Hartlepool Renaissance, Tyne and Wear Urban Traffic Management and Control, Gateshead’s Street Lighting Invest to Save and most recently as SRO for Tyne and Wear LSTF projects.

He is currently head of transport strategy at Gateshead Council with responsibilities for transport planning, traffic planning, highway and flood risk management, contaminated land and engineering design.

He is also chairman of Tyne and Wear LTP Joint Steering Group, the Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative and the Local Government Technical Advisors Group North East.
