A cycling app produced by the road safety partnerships in Yorkshire and Humber has passed the 2,000 download mark.
The free app, “Cycle Yorkshire – Ride the Routes”, offers tips and advice to cyclists about safe riding in rural areas. It has been produced to assist cyclists drawn to the region by the 2014 Tour de France Grand Dèpart in Yorkshire (5-6 July).
The app includes film footage of semi-pro rider Jamie Sharpe riding key sections of Stages One and Two of the Grand Dèpart routes, along with road safety advice, news and links to relevant websites. It is available on both the iStore and Google Play and can also be download at bit.ly/cycleyorkshire.
Kathryn MacKay, from the City of York road safety team which led on the development of the app, said: “This is the first time we’ve done an app and it’s been a really interesting project.
“I’d like to thank Jamie Sharpe who must have cycled more than 200 miles over the two filming days. Watching him ride really made me appreciate how hard it will be to ride the Grand Dèpart routes.
“The app has been created to provide information and advice to leisure cyclists who may be planning to ride the route over the summer months.”
