Shortly before the UK went into lockdown, nearly 150 data analysts attended an annual conference to influence and support their work.
Organised by Road Safety GB in partnership with Agilysis, the fifth edition of ‘Joining the Dots’ took place in Birmingham on 3 March 2020.
The event, which was sponsored by Jenoptik, was attended by 142 delegates from across the UK and beyond.
The agenda, which featured a total of 18 presentations, was put together with input from the Road Safety GB Champions’ Network – set up to support data analysts by sharing best practice and improving resources for the profession.
The keynote address was delivered by Ian Knowles, head of statistics at the DfT, who introduced the new DfT Transport Data Strategy.
Presentations on a variety of analysis topics followed, while six breakout sessions were delivered allowing attendees to discuss more technical aspects of road safety analysis with sector experts.
In terms of feedback, 96% of attendees thought that the format of the day was either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
Using that feedback, organisers have begun planning for next years’ conference – which is anticipated to take place in spring 2021. Once again the agenda will be driven by the RSGB Champions Network.
