A UK-based civil engineering contractor, who specialise in highways and other infrastructure work, has been recognised for its efforts to reduce the risks associated with operating vehicles in urban environments.

FM Conway was presented with a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award (PMIRSA) in December for its Occupational Road Risk initiative.

The organisation was praised for its statement of intent that “through our actions and innovations, no road user will suffer life-changing harm involving our vehicles by 2030”.

To achieve this, the company has implemented innovative technologies ‘to engineer out the risks associated with operating vehicles in urban environments with the inherent risk of coming into contact with other road users, including cyclists and pedestrians’.

It has also developed an ‘innovative methodology’ to deliver a tailored and improved training experience, to ensure that drivers are regularly trained and re-trained to deliver new levels of safety standards.

The prestigious awards, which have run for more than 30 years, are designed to give public recognition to those who have improved road safety.
